Hawthorn’s first home game on Sunday 3 April became the stage for a unique partnership event to promote VicHealth’s Find Your Motivation Campaign.
To celebrate the 10-week initiative, encouraging Victorian women to be more active (and how to have fun in the process!), Hawthorn gave 200 women the opportunity to participate in a huge group yoga session on the ‘G.
This was an historic event and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Hawthorn fans and members to see the stadium through the eyes of a professional AFL player. It was also the first time a group of this size had been given access to the ground.
The yoga class was an incredible sight to behold, with the lucky prize winners filling the boundary of the ‘G, calmly coached by an expert yogi whose image was projected onto the big screen.
Hawthorn has a strong focus on raising the profile of women in sport, and after the class the group was invited to attend an intimate session featuring a panel of influential women, who spoke to the yoga group as part of a motivational seminar.
Hosted by VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter, the seminar featured Hawthorn Vice President Linda Kristjanson, Meditation teacher Kasey Todd, Performance Coach Leigh Russell and Journalist Samantha Lane.
From all measures, the afternoon was a great success and undoubtedly increased the participants’ motivation to stay active and continue to get involved in other activities within the community.
If you find it hard to stay motivated, VicHealth have some great fun and social opportunities for you to join in. They’ve also put together some handy tips to get you more active.
