Review

Taken at pick 36 in last year’s Rookie Draft, Stewart was very impressive in his first year at Hawthorn.

The skilful left-footer was elevated onto the senior list and broke into the AFL side mid-year to play three games, impressing with not only his ability to hit the scoreboard but also apply pressure to the opposition.

He laid nine tackles in his debut game against Melbourne, the most ever by a Hawthorn debutant.

Stewart also kicked three goals in his three AFL appearances, gelling well with the likes of Luke Breust, Cyril Rioli and Paul Puopolo.

Playing most of his season at Box Hill, Stewart was regularly among the goal kickers and finished with 16 goals and 77 tackles from 14 games.

If he can continue to develop his goal kicking and tackling pressure, there is no reason why he can’t see more opportunities at AFL level in 2017.

A word from: Damian Carroll

“Kade played a lot of time forward this year but also spent some time in the midfield.

“He was able to play three games and when he came into the AFL side he gave us great energy and enthusiasm with the way he attacks the ball and the opposition.

“He’s a character off the field as well which I think the boys really enjoy – it was good to see that side of him as a happy kid who gives energy to the group.

“Kade’s ability to hunt the ball, lay tackles, repeat efforts and also hit the scoreboard – such as the Melbourne game when he kicked an important goal – was really good for us.

“He’s come a long way in a short time off the rookie list, so we’re looking forward to see him develop further and push for more AFL games in 2017.”
