Daniel Howe continued to build his AFL career at Waverley this season, improving on last year’s four AFL appearances to feature in 11 senior games in 2016.

He was hampered by injury at various stages, with calf issues preventing him from forcing his way into the AFL team a different times.

A breakout game against Essendon in Round 11 was certainly the highlight for Howe in 2016 – the second-year player collected 26 disposals, four clearances and four tackles, showing he can be a competent part of one of the competition’s best midfields.

Howe was also used across half back at various stages as he continues his development.

A late call-up to Hawthorn’s qualifying final outfit, it’s clear the coaching staff have no questions about his ability under pressure, and the upcoming pre-season will be an opportunity to further develop his body.

A word from: Dan Howe

“I was a bit up-and-down early in the season, in one week and out the other.

“I’ve strung a few games together which is nice and hopefully that continues because the more I play, the more comfortable I feel at the (AFL) level.”
