HAWTHORN Football Club has again displayed its family nature, with 90-year-old Betty Claney presented with a signed Hawthorn guernsey on Sunday.
Gathered at the Castlemaine Golf Club for a celebratory afternoon tea with some of her closest friends and family, Betty put on her new guernsey, which had her name and the number 90 on the back.
It was a just, birthday surprise for the Always Hawthorn Bequest Club member, after giving over 70 years of support to the club.
Her family has been involved with Hawthorn since 1924.
Overwhelmed at the club’s thoughtfulness, Betty wished to thank Hawthorn and Alastair Clarkson for the words he had hand-written on her card.
For Betty, it is no surprise the 2016 season can’t get underway quick enough.
