HAWTHORN duo Luke Hodge and Ben Stratton have both been cleared of wrongdoing by the AFL Match Review Panel for incidents in Saturday’s loss to GWS Giants.
Incidents between Hodge and Giants’ player Nathan Wilson, and Stratton with the same Giants player, were both assessed.
Neither player was found to have any case to answer.
The MRP said Wilson lowered his body in an attempt to avoid contact with Hodge, who was attempting to prevent Wilson from running towards goal.
The umpire paid a free kick for high contact during the match, with the MRP determining the "open hand" contact was not unreasonable in the circumstances as Hodge attempted to tackle, giving the Hawks' skipper no case to answer.
In Stratton’s case, the MRP said he braced for inevitable contact after attempting to spoil Wilson’s kick.
The MRP said Wilson’s momentum after kicking the ball carried him forward into Stratton, leading to an accidental head clash.
Both Stratton and Hodge will be available for Friday night’s clash with Richmond.
