HAWTHORN coach Alastair Clarkson has ruled Ryan Schoenmakers out of Friday night’s game against Adelaide with a groin injury.
Clarkson said Schoenmakers’ groin injury hadn’t healed as well as hoped, and the forward would miss again after not making the trip to Tasmania last week.
"He has just been a bit sore in the groin. It hasn’t settled as well as we would have liked and he’ll probably be another week or two away," Clarkson said.
The news was better for a couple of other Hawks, with Bradley Hill (wrist) and Josh Gibson (hamstring) a chance to return to the side against the Crows.
Clarkson said both players were in the mix for selection, but would wait to see how both players fared at training this morning.
"Gibson and Hill are right in the mix. Hopefully they’ll be able to play but we’ll see how they get through training today and make a decision this afternoon," he said.
Gibson missed Hawthorn’s match against St Kilda last week, while Hill is yet to play a game this year after needing surgery on a broken wrist just which he sustained in the pre-season.
Clarkson also spoke about youngster Ryan Burton, who has been sent in for surgery to remove a plate and screws from his knee after signing a contract extension this week.
"His knee has just been a little bit unsettled. He’s got a significant plate in his leg and about six or seven screws," he said.
"A couple of those screws are causing some inflammation, and as a result we can’t get enough workload into him to play consecutive games, certainly at senior level.
"He’s played a couple of games with Box Hill and had a pretty good summer, but he just hasn’t been able to get enough work in because of the knee swelling – so we’ll get that plate removed and hopefully we’ll look at playing him later in the year."
