Hawthorn has added two more to the brown and gold family selecting Harry Morrison and Mitchell Lewis in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft.
Morrison was selected by the Hawks with their first selection, pick 74. A product of Murray Bushrangers he is a medium-sized defender and intercept specialist with great running power.
Recruiting and List Manager Graham Wright said:
“Harry is a half-back flanker from the Murray Bushrangers."
“He has had a couple of minor injuries during the year but kicks the ball really well on both feet.
"He reads the game well and is strong and competitive.
“We are really pleased to get him."
Among the Bushrangers' best in their TAC Cup grand final loss, Morrison was equal-second in the goal kicking test at the NAB AFL Draft Combine despite his back-half role.
He is a right footer with excellent skills on both sides of his body.
He finished top-ten in several of the Draft Combine challenges, including agility (fourth) and beep test (fourth).
As a bottom-ager in 2015, Morrison returned from an ACL injury and continued to develop throughout the 2016 season.
The Hawks used Pick 76 to select Mitchell Lewis, a 198cm forward from Calder Cannons.
While Lewis’ name caused quite a stir in the Twittersphere it was his football ability that caught the eye of Hawthorn recruiters.
“Mitch is a tall forward who can pitch in a bit in the ruck," Wright said.
"Another one who is really competitive, marks the ball really well.
"He is a project player and still very raw.
"He is a scratch golfer and an outstanding junior cricketer as well, so he’s been really good at a couple of sports.
"We think that will be a real upside."
In one of his best performances for the Calder Cannons in 2016, Lewis notched up four goals, 12 marks, 12 hit-outs and 33 disposals.
