THE NAB AFL Trade Period doesn't start until 10am AEDT on Monday (October 10) but there are plenty of player-movement discussions taking place behind closed doors.
Trade talks continued in earnest on Thursday and the free agency period starts on Friday (October 7 - today).
AFL.com.au's Trade Winds will provide a round-up of the latest action every morning until the end of the Trade Period on Thursday, October 20.
Motlop's future in the air
The future of enigmatic Geelong forward Steven Motlop will be decided over the Trade Period, amid interest from rivals.
Ned Guy, from Motlop's management team McDonald Sports and Talent Management, said that while the contracted forward/midfielder was happy at the Cattery, he hadn't yet made a decision on where he would be in 2017.
"It probably started as a bit of a whisper that grew legs and then people had opinions on it. Steven will sit down with Alex (McDonald). He's had a chat with the club," Guy told SEN on Friday morning.
"I think someone was on record the other day saying that we're probably in a landscape now where nobody is untradeable.
"Whether or not Steven's future's at Geelong or elsewhere, they'll probably work that out over the next few weeks."
Richmond made strong overtures to Motlop last year and there has been speculation that he could be part of a deal that would send Tigers veteran Brett Deledio to Geelong.
Boomer '90 per cent' certain to play at North … Heidelberg
The AFL's games record-holder Brent Harvey is still deciding whether to continue his remarkable career at a rival club after being delisted by North Melbourne, and local officials believe he is firming to reunite with younger brother Shane at Northern Football League division two club North Heidelberg.
Excited North Heidelberg president Ken Gillett believes it to be "fairly likely" that Harvey, 38, will join the NFL's Bulldogs.
"Listening to what everyone else has to say and without having direct knowledge, I would say it is fairly likely he will play with North Heidelberg," Gillett told the local Heidelberg Leader.
"Someone sent me an email the other day and someone fairly close to him said it was about 90 per cent. He is going to be a drawcard, for not only us, but for the whole Northern league."
But Shane Harvey, who played 14 AFL games with Essendon and North Melbourne from 2002-04, wasn't so sure he'd be playing alongside his illustrious sibling next year.
"He doesn’t really say a great deal but I know there has been a little bit of interest from a few different clubs," he said. "I think he is a little bit too good to be playing local footy just yet, going by his form. I still think an AFL club will snaffle him up but having said that, we would obviously love to have him.”
Lyons stones Crows' offer
Adelaide midfielder Jarryd Lyons hasn't asked for a trade but The Advertiser reports he is unlikely to sign what his management deems an underwhelming contract offer from the Crows.
Lyons, 24, was a consistent performer for the Crows this season, playing a career-high 20 games, including both finals, for a total of 55 in five years.
His management believes he is worth considerably more on the open market than what the Crows are offering, despite the club regarding him as a required player.
It is believed that Gold Coast could become a potential suitor for the Victorian, who was a fourth-round pick (No.61) in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft.
Hawks to Ty up Vickery
As the free agency period gets under way on Friday, Hawthorn is expected to lodge the paperwork to start the process of procuring Richmond big man Ty Vickery.
However, progress is likely to be slower for Fremantle forward Chris Mayne and North Melbourne midfielderDaniel Wells, both of whom are understood to have received lucrative long-term offers from Collingwood.
Some details of the Mayne deal are still being worked out, while Wells won't announce his intentions until after the Kangaroos' best and fairest count on Friday night.
