HAWTHORN football club has broken its all-time membership record for the tenth consecutive year, surpassing the 2015 benchmark of 72,924.
CEO Stuart Fox thanked Hawthorn supporters for their ongoing dedication and support, crediting the milestone to each of the 73,012 members that have committed to the club to date.
“The loyalty of the Hawthorn faithful is something our club is incredibly proud of,” Fox said.
“A decade of record-breaking membership numbers is an amazing feat and is credit to the dedication and commitment of everyone involved with Hawthorn Football Club.
“I would like to sincerely thank every member who has signed on in 2016. I look forward to standing proud beside you in what we are hoping will be another successful season for the brown and gold.”
A gift of thanks was then chosen, individually tailored to each member, in order to acknowledge the significant contribution and commitment Hawthorn members make to the club.
Madeline Robertson, a passionate early childhood teacher and committed Hawthorn member of 22-years, was delighted when Captain Luke Hodge surprised her classroom with a gift aligned to her other passion, Harry Potter.
“I can’t believe the effort the club has put in to make me feel special,” Robertson said.
“It’s been an amazing day and I couldn’t feel more part of the Hawthorn family.”
The milestone record brings the club one step closer to achieving 75,000 members for the first time in the club’s history.
“It is a very exciting time to be a part of the club and we now have an enormous opportunity to push towards another significant milestone figure for our football club,” Fox said.
“I urge each and every supporter who hasn’t yet signed on as a member for 2016 to become a part of the family here at Hawthorn.”
