Round 20, 2015 – Hawthorn 19.7 (121) d Geelong 12.13 (85)
The Hawks overcame a gallant Geelong outfit on the back of bags of goals from Cyril Rioli (six), Luke Hodge (four) and Luke Breust (three).
Despite leading by just 15 points at half time after the Cats rallied in the second term, the Hawks kicked into gear and pulled away from their arch-rivals, recording a 36-point victory.
Cyril Rioli was the big talking point from the game, kicking six goals from just 12 touches in a destructive performance.
Sam Mitchell was at his influential best with 28 disposals for the game.
Round 1, 2015 – Hawthorn 17.21 (123) def. Geelong 8.13 (61)
The Hawks blew the Cats off the park in their 2015 Easter Monday clash, winning by 62 points in front of just over 73,000 fans.
Despite trailing by a goal at quarter time, the Hawks slammed on six goals to one in the second quarter to take a strangle hold on the game.
A further eight goals after the main break ensured that the Hawks got their 2015 campaign off to the best possible start.
Luke Breust finished with five goals, while Paul Puopolo and Jarryd Roughead (three goals each) also contributed to the scoreboard in a big Round 1 win.
Qualifying Final, 2014 – Hawthorn 15.14 (104) def. Geelong 10.8 (68)
The Hawks couldn’t be stopped on the way to a preliminary final berth in 2014, brushing the Cats aside in an authoritative display.
Although the score was tied up at half-time, Hawthorn’s big guns fired in the second half to pile on nine goals in a 36-point win.
Jack Gunston got off the leash to kick three goals, while Jordan Lewis also snagged three goals to go with his 20 disposals.
Sam Mitchell did what he so often does, accumulating loads of possession to finish with 36 disposals on the night.
Round 22, 2014 – Hawthorn 14.10 (94) def. Geelong 11.5 (71)
A Will Langford-inspired Hawks outfit overturned a 31-point half time deficit to overcome Geelong in Round 22.
The 53-point turnaround was led by Langford, who slotted two crucial goals in the third quarter to get the Hawks a slender lead going into the final change.
Three goals to David Hale and Jarryd Roughead ensured that the Hawks bounced back from their defeat at the hands of Geelong earlier in the season.
Josh Gibson and Sam Mitchell were prolific with 28 disposals each as the Hawks showed that they were no longer dogged by the supposed ‘Kennett Curse’ – they fought their way back into the game after being seemingly down and out at half time.
Round 5, 2014 – Hawthorn 12.15 (87) def. by Geelong 15.16 (106)
Hawthorn was outclassed by a Cats outfit that proved too good for the reigning premiers in Round 5 of 2014.
Geelong lead at every break and eventually put a three-goal break between themselves and the Hawks in the final term.
Jack Gunston and Luke Breust each kicked three goals, while Grant Birchall collected 28 touches across the day.
It was the absence of Brian Lake which hurt the most, with Geelong key forward Tom Hawkins booting five goals and proving the difference between the two teams.
