DEFENDER Grant Birchall was at his efficient best in Friday night's win against North Melbourne.

Birchall collected 20 disposals - at 95 per cent efficiency - to play a key role in the Hawks' win against the ladder leaders.

"It was a really important game for us tonight, North are a quality side," Birchall said post-game.

"It was good to get a bit of a scalp, I guess, and it puts us in a really good position leading into the second half of the year."

Birchall's 20 disposals also helped another cause - the Vinnies Tasmania Flood Appeal.

For each disposal Birchall collected during the game, the club will donate $500 to the appeal - making the contribution an even $10,000 to support people in Tasmania affected by the floods.

The star Hawk didn't know about #BirchWatch before the game, but was delighted to be able to make a contribution.

"That's fantastic... They've obviously done it pretty tough down there in Tassie the last few weeks with the floods," he said.

"I had no idea about that before the game, so to give them $10,000 is fantastic - every bit helps."
