HAWTHORN Football Club will donate $10,000 to the Vinnies Tasmania Flood Appeal.
The club announced pre-game on Friday night that it would donate $500 to the appeal for each and every disposal gathered by Tasmanian export and four-time premiership defender Grant Birchall.
Birchall didn’t disappoint – starring in the Hawks’ win with 20 disposals.
"That's fantastic... They've obviously done it pretty tough down there in Tassie the last few weeks with the floods," Birchall said.
"I had no idea about that before the game, so to give them $10,000 is fantastic - every bit helps."
The club will present the cheque this week, when it travels to Launceston for its Round 14 match against Gold Coast SUNS.
Acting CEO Tim Silvers said the club was pleased to be able to help the Tasmanian community.
“We’re very proud of our relationship with Tasmania, and are pleased to be able to assist the community in its time of need,” Silvers said.
“Tasmania has been a great supporter of ours over more than 15 years and we hope this contribution from our club will be of assistance to people affected by the recent floods.”
