Into his second year at Waverley, this year was all about development for Pittonet but also about breaking into the AFL side for the first time.

He achieved that when Jonathon Ceglar was a late withdrawal from Hawthorn’s Round 1 clash against Geelong, allowing Pittonet in for his AFL debut.

While not accumulating huge numbers of disposals at AFL level, it was his physicality and aggression towards the opposition which was a highlight.

He laid 7 tackles against Essendon in his second game at the highest level, showing the price he puts on his follow-up work once the ball is at ground level.

Having honed his craft at Box Hill for two seasons now, Pittonet will be looking for more opportunities at senior level next year after Jonathon Ceglar hurt his ACL late in the season and will likely miss most of next year as he recovers.

A word from: Damian Carroll

“We were extremely happy that Marc could come in and play a role for us in his three games.

“In two of those games we had wins against Collingwood and Essendon and against Geelong in Round 1 he certainly competed well.

“He also played some consistent footy at Box Hill and we noticed each time he came into the side he’d developed himself – he improved his running patterns, he competed well and we saw growth in his football this year.

“We love his competitiveness and we look forward to him continuing to develop as a young ruckman within our footy club over the next couple of years.”
