Jordan Membrey hasn’t had the most conventional journey to the AFLW.

Last Tuesday, Membrey was drafted to an AFLW club for the third time in three years.

She was selected by Collingwood with pick 74, exactly 12 months after being drafted by them in the previous AFLW Draft. 

Not many people get a third shot at playing elite football, but the 23-year-old said she’s grateful to be given the opportunity.

“I've just been working really hard to try and get back there,” she said.

“I'm super stoked to be given a third chance to have another go at the top level.

“I’m super pumped to go and excited to get started.”

Her football career first began back in 2017 when she was recruited to Brisbane Lions as a free agent.

She played five games for the Lions before being picked up by Collingwood the following year.

Playing three games for the Pies in 2018, Membrey made the move to Hawthorn and spent 2019 developing and improving her skillset.

The 23-year-old credited the Hawks to building back her confidence in football.

“I think Hawthorn has definitely helped me believe that I can make it to the top level again.

“There’s really good coaching staff who build good relationships.

“They just really put the effort in on and off the track to not only develop good footballers but good people as well.”

During her 2019 at the club, Membrey said that the support she’s received from her teammates has been the most enjoyable part of her experience.

“All the girls are really good people and footballers and so I got to learn a lot from them.

“They supported everyone not just myself and they've definitely helped me get picked up again.”
