For a number of Hawks, the 2020 season will represent an opportunity to break out and become ingrained senior players.
They have done their apprenticeships over the last few years, toiling away at predominantly VFL level.
Some have had a taste of senior football, the others right on the fringe.
We have compiled a series of candidates who figure to make the 2020 campaign their own.
James Cousins
Age: 21
Senior games: 19
It seems like James Cousins has been around longer than he actually has.
Cousins was quick to make his debut after arriving on the Hawks list through the rookie draft of 2016.
But despite getting an early taste of senior football, Cousins is yet to install himself as a certain best 22 player.
The 21-year-old is a talented ball-winner, having averaged 25 disposals per game in both of his last two seasons with Box Hill.
Whether Cousins can emulate this level of productivity at the next level will be another one to watch in 2020.
