Catch up with how Friday's win over the Saints panned out as we take you through the game quarter-by-quarter.
First Quarter
The opening 10 minutes of the game saw neither side able to make any sort of traction inside their respective forward 50s.
Shaun Burgoyne, spending time at full forward, was able to finally break the deadlock mid-way through the term to get the first score on the board.
Starting in the midfield, Chad Wingard had an instant impact on the game, proving a dynamic match-up for the Saints on-ballers to handle early.
Following a three-goal performance against the same opposition only a week earlier, Patton started the game in much the same vein booting a set-shot goal from outside 50 for the Hawks’ second of the afternoon.
Meanwhile the Saints were somewhat wasteful in front of goal, failing to capitalise on their opportunities.
Harry Jones was workmanlike in the clinches of the midfield, showing an unrelenting willingness to put himself in ball-winning positions.
Saints recruit Zak Jones finally kicked his new side’s first of the day in the dying minutes of the opening term, and the three-point Hawks ascendancy at the first break seemed a fair reflection of the opening stanza.
Hawthorn 2.1
St Kilda 1.4
Second Quarter
The Hawks placed a premium on being more precise with their ball movement in the second quarter and again started the term with clear territorial dominance.
Jaeger O’Meara and James Cousins started to work their way into the game in the second quarter with some supreme bullocking work out of the stoppages, both looked confident to take on opposition players with their strength.
Silk continued to play at a level above, dazzling the Morwell crowd with some classy footwork that resulted in his second goal of the day.
Hawthorn Coach Alastair Clarkson noted it was our inability to take advantage of opportunities last week that led to our loss in Marsh 1 – but to this point in the day it was the Saints who were squandering their opportunities, converting just one of their seven shots at goal so far.
Changkuoth Jiath looked increasingly comfortable at senior level with a number of offensive and defensive highlights in front of his hometown crowd.
Some selfless work from Patton found Henderson in a better position in front of goal, before the number 31 returned the favour by slotting the goal.
It was ultimately a dominant quarter for the Hawks who, despite not owning a major lead on the scoreboard, looked well and truly in control of the game in the opening half.
Hawthorn 2.1 4.4
St Kilda 1.4 1.6
Third quarter
Harry Morrison has looked menacing across half-back with his ball-use from the back-half damaging.
Jaeger’s hard work today is rewarded with the first goal of the second half. He’s been arguably best on ground to this point.
Ricky Henderson leaves the ground with a beaming smile across his face. What for? He is rotating with Finn Maginness in his first appearance in the brown and gold.
Emerson Jeka is also having his first run and just approached his first contest with an impressive, commanding intensity.
Darren Minchington was another that came on at half-time and he has booted two goals in his opening 10 minutes of game-time.
The Hawks ball movement has gone to another level in the third term.
Jeka copped a whack across the chops but settled himself before slotting his first goal as a Hawk.
Olly Hanrahan has done a lot of unrewarded work today, but a quintessential small forward goal that wowed the crowd as he crumbed it off the pack puts a cherry on top of his day.
Hawthorn 2.1 4.4 9.6
St Kilda 1.4 1.6 3.10
Fourth quarter
Burgoyne kicked off proceedings in the final term with his third of the day.
Youngsters Harry Pepper and Will Golds have joined the game in the final quarter and have settled in quickly to the pace of the game.
Harry Jones has put a quality four-quarter performance together, having impacted the game in multiple areas.
Jeka has kicked another one as he finishes off some outstanding ball movement by the Hawks late in the piece.
That's all she wrote in Morwell.
A strong performance by our boys as we run out 26-point victors.
