Hawthorn’s VFLW side has been bolstered with the signing of four exciting new recruits for the 2020 VFLW season.
The quartet of players comprises of Gemma Proy, Kaitlyn Carew, Katie Angelis and Jemma Owen, with all four coming to the Hawks having had experience playing at VFLW level.

GM - VFL and VFLW Football Daniel Napoli said the group were a talented mix of players who were assets to the 2020 line-up.
“All four players come to us with VFLW experience, so we’re really excited to have them as part of the program and to develop them into the best footballers they can be,” Napoli said.
“They’ve already been really impressive on the track during pre-season, so we’re looking forward to seeing them run out in the brown and gold this year.”
Proy comes to the Hawks having spent time in Collingwood’s VFLW side.
The 19-year-old is a promising small midfielder who played three games for the Pies in 2019.
Carew has had experience with two VFLW clubs, having played at both the Southern Saints and Williamstown over the last two years.
The 29-year-old plays as a high half-forward with cross-code skills, growing up with soccer and basketball experience.
Angelis had a break-out year in 2018 when she was named as Melbourne Uni’s Most Improved VFLW player.
She enjoyed another impressive season in 2019, featuring in all 16 games for Melbourne Uni and collecting 16.2 goals - second highest goal tally of her team.
Owen rounds out the quartet as a talented 19-year-old with strong leadership skills, having captained the Sandringham Dragons in 2018.
While at the Dragons, Owen was also signed at the Southern Saints in the VFLW competition and continued to play for them in 2019, before joining the Hawks at the beginning of the year.
Round 1 of the 2020 VFLW season will kick off on Sunday 10 May, when the Hawks take on North Melbourne at Arden Street Oval from 11:30am.
