Hawthorn defender Sam Frost doesn’t anticipate too much fanfare when he pulls on the brown and gold jumper for the first time on Sunday.

That is not to say that the athletic defender is not excited about his club debut but Frost, with 91 games under his belt over the past eight seasons with Melbourne and GWS, acknowledges there’s bigger stories at play currently.

“I think amidst everything else that is going on, it hasn’t been a big event in the scheme of things,” Frost said.

“But I’m really excited and I think the guys here are happy for me and mum and dad looking forward to watching so it should be good.”

The 26-year-old says he has had little difficulty transitioning into the Hawthorn system since crossing to the club in last year’s trade period.

“I think the way I play naturally is fairly well-suited to the system we’re trying to run here.

“It isn’t too different to the structures I’ve been learning over the last few years.”

As for the assignment that awaits the Hawks on Sunday, Frost says the side will have its work cut out.

“I think they will be really confident heading into this year based off last year.

“They’re an exciting, young, fast-paced team so they’ll be coming in hot, but it should be a really good hit-out.”
