Ahead of Hawthorn’s Round 2 clash with Geelong this evening, CEO Justin Reeves has thanked member for their ongoing support of the brown and gold.
“Our Hawthorn family has been amazingly loyal and supportive through what has been an incredibly challenging period,” said Reeves
“We head into tonight’s match with great excitement and optimism, and a great part of this is owed to the love and support coming from our members.
“As we head down the road to Geelong, we know we do so with our members there in spirit. We will also ensure our players’ are reminded of your support with a wall of member messages lining their entrance into the change rooms tonight.
“In addition to this we have adorned one end of GMHBA with our distinct brown and gold colours, to reaffirm to each and every one of our members that they are right their with us riding every bump.”
From wherever Hawthorn fans are watching the club will be working hard to ensure they have the best seat in the house.
The club is do everything we can to bring the action to YOU – our members.
Members are asked to login into the Member Exclusive area of the club app to ensure they receive access to all the exclusive content on offer.
Reeves said he was buoyed be the Prime Minister’s comments on Friday regarding crowds, believing it now more than likely we will see Hawks members and fans attend games in some shape or form in 2020.
“We know there is still a lot of work to be done, but Scott Morrison’s comments regarding his plans to see spectators return to smaller sporting venues is really exciting,” said Reeves.
“The AFL and the clubs will continue to work with individual State Governments regarding access to matches for crowds and we will only have supporters at our games when Governments and the Chief Health Officers in each state say it is safe to do so.
“We remain hopeful that this will hopefully be possible at some point during season 2020 and we will continue to keep you updated as things change and evolve.”
While fans and members may be watching on from the comfort of their homes for Round 2, in exciting news, they will be able to tune into more than just the game, with the launch of ‘Road to Recovery,’ a documentary following Tom Mitchell’s return to football, to air on Fox Footy at 6pm Friday evening.
For members who are unable to watch the documentary on Fox, an extended version will be available exclusively to members across the course of the weekend, before being made available to all fans on Sunday night.
From the moments immediately following his injury to inside the surgeon's rooms to those agonising first steps, this documentary will change the way fans understand the heartbreak of injuries and the incredible sacrifice required in order to make a return to the elite level.
Hawthorn players will also come together tonight with their opponents from Geelong to take a knee in a show of solidarity with the league’s Indigenous peoples and all people of colour.
Players from both clubs will also wear black t-shirts during the warm-up period.
Reeves said it was important to the playing group and the club to support this significant cause and ensure the industry showed a united approach.
“Our players’ have the club’s absolute support of their decision to come together with Geelong, and all clubs, in an act of unity and respect,” said Reeves.
“As a club, we see great strength in diversity and put enormous weight on ensuring we, and the broader football industry, actively advocate for equality.
“The actions of our players tonight represent our commitment to continuing on our journey of reconciliation and standing up and speaking out against racism of any kind.”
