HAWTHORN defender Taylor Duryea is already eyeing more success, not satisfied with one premiership next to his name.
After missing out on last year’s triumph, Duryea became a premiership player with Hawthorn in Saturday’s 63-point win over the Swans.
But the 23 year old is already addicted to the euphoric feeling of winning a premiership, declaring he wants more success with the Hawks.
“It’s unbelievable,” he said of the feeling on winning a premiership.
“I know why every player wants this moment because the feeling you get when that siren rings, it’s just unbelievable.
“I’ll enjoy this but it’s unbelievable to achieve something I’ve strived for for not only five years at the Club but for many years before that.
“Like any other guy on the list, it’s just the pinnacle.
“I want more.”
An outstanding performer throughout the finals series, Duryea was forced to wait until Thursday to find out whether or not he’d be playing in the 2014 decider.
His run and carry off half-back was important in the victories over Geelong and Port Adelaide in the first two finals, and his defensive capability were arguably the best they’d been all season.
Duryea’s form was undeniable and thankfully, luckily for him, he’d done enough to secure his place in Hawthorn 22, even if it was at the side’s substitute.
“I didn’t find out until Thursday,” he said. “It wasn’t a nerve-wracking week but I was a little bit unsure whether I was playing or not.
“Even to get the sub vest to start the game, I couldn’t care less. Just as long as I was part of the team.”
In the end being the sub was the perfect role for Duryea, who was activated five minutes into the last quarter when the Hawks were 10 goals in front of the Swans.
He replaced Cyril Rioli who got through the Grand Final unscathed despite a number of people doubting whether his hamstring would hold up.
Duryea picked up nine disposals at 100 per cent efficiency in the last quarter and even had five running bounces – the second most of any player on the ground. He also had three inside 50s and a goal assist.
“We played one of our best games for the year at the right time,” he said.
“Basically for me, I just went out there to have fun and run to try and create some energy.
“It was the best result for me to come on when the game was nearly out of reach.”
