Hawthorn Football Club and the Melbourne Vixens have joined forces with Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation to promote responsible gambling.
At a special meeting at Ricoh Centre, dual Hawthorn premiership players Luke Breust and Bradley Hill swapped victory stories and compared premiership cups with Vixens netballers Madi Robinson, Liz Watson and Kate Moloney after both were triumphant in their respective leagues in 2014.
The players were in attendance to endorse the Responsible Gambling Charter, which Hawthorn Chief Executive Stuart Fox signed alongside Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation CEO, Serge Sardo.
As participating clubs in the foundation’s ‘Gambling’s not a game’ program, the Hawks and Vixens foster a culture of responsible gambling and encourage grass-roots clubs of all sporting disciplines to also sign up.
‘Gambling’s not a game’ is an education program that aims to counter the growing culture of gambling in clubs and protect young people from the risks of gambling.
As the 40th club to sign the responsible gambling charter, the Hawks commit to providing a safe club environment and minimising the exposure of gambling activities and marketing to young people.
Both the Hawks and Vixens recognise the importance of focusing on the love of sport, not gambling which was evident as the players practised their kicking and passing skills and traded tips on the training oval at the Ricoh Centre.
