PREMIERSHIP celebrations are officially over for the players and coaches at Hawthorn as preparation for season 2015 intensifies.
With the full squad now back training for two weeks, the Hawks have embarked on a pre-season camp in Mooloolaba in Queensland to step up training before the Christmas break.
Speaking at the Club’s Annual General Meeting on Thursday night, Hawthorn Coach Alastair Clarkson said the success of season 2014 is now simply a memory.
“We’re back in training, so the full stop on 2014 was applied as soon as our boys got back into the swing of things,” he said.
“As soon as they all get back into the fold, it’s activation 2015.
“For our players, coaching staff and staff our focus and attention is all on 2015 now.”
Clarkson, who is now the second-longest serving Hawthorn coach and has taken the Hawks to three premierships – 2008, 2013 and 2014 – says he, his coaches and players are committed to improving on its 2014 efforts to stay ahead of the game next year.
“We know full well if we stand still, we’ll get passed in pretty quick fashion,” he said.
“We learnt some pretty valuable lessons out of 2008.
“We need to continue to evolve and continue to challenge ourselves. We need to get better and bigger next year to have any chance of winning the silverware.
“We give our commitment that we will do our utmost to make sure we stay ahead of the pack.”
Clarkson’s sentiments were echoed by Andrew Newbold, who was re-elected unopposed as President of the Club for another term at Thursday night’s meeting.
“The Hawthorn Football Club is a place of expectation,” Newbold said.
“We have high standards, strong values, we expect the highest performance of ourselves in all that we do.
“And that means, whilst it’s important to enjoy our victory this year, work has already begun to make sure that we once again improve both on and off the field so we can continue to be successful.
“That is our promise to you ladies and gentlemen and to ourselves.”
