A group of younger players took part in a physical tackling training session at Adrenaline MMA & Fitness on Wednesday afternoon. The session was designed to give players the chance to experience heavy tackling and pressure while improving on overall technique.

Head of Development and Academy Coach Damian Carroll was on hand observing and offering advice to the players.

“We’ve got our younger players working on some body positioning, working on their strength.” Carroll said.

The entire playing list has been working on their strength in the pre-season, with Wednesday's session yet another way to increase strength.

“We’re trying to maximise their strength in contested situations.”

Carroll stated the club will continue to conduct similar sessions in the lead-up to the season in order to apply techniques on the field.

“Hopefully some of the skills they learn today can transfer into their football. A lot of it is technique, the next step is taking these skills onto the training track and into games within the next month.”

Tackling is a part of the game players take quite seriously.

“A lot of our fourth year players have done this for a couple of years now, they really pride themselves on this sort of stuff.”
