Some exciting news for members and fans when they next visit the Hawks Museum, the 2013 Premiership Flag is now on display.
The pennant adds a wonderful spash of colour, hanging from the ceiling above the Trainers exhibit and many visitors have already taken the opportunity to have their photos taken standing below.
The Club’s eleven premiership pennants are all on display and it is fascinating to listen to our visitors as they quietly reflet with one another the various grand finals.
Some of the conversations heard recall many a magic moment:
1961 v Footscray: Our first premiership, I was there, Brendan Edwards 32 kicks, the celebrations back at Glenferrie Oval with the bagpipes and bon-fires.
1971 v St Kilda: Huddo knocked out, Leon Rice’s timely goal, Scott gathering the team together at three quarter time, Bob Keddie’s four goals.
1976 v North Melbourne: The cup for Crimmo, Tucky’s first of seven premierships.
1978 v North Melbourne: Knights was knocked in the last quarter and Parkin sent him to the forward pocket, Knight marks twice for two match winning goals.
1983 v Essendon: We win by 83 points, Matthews brilliant with six goals, Robertson wins the Norm Smith.
1986 v Carlton: Ayres moved to the wing and wins the Norm Smith, Dunstall kicks six.
1988 v Melbourne: Alan Joyce stood in for an ill Allan Jeans, a 96-point win a record … Ayres wins a second Norm Smith Medal.
1989 v Geelong: Brereton flattened, Platten down, Dipper not looking good, last man standing, Pritchard terrific.
1991 v West Coast: Played at Waverley, Paul Dear wins the Norm Smith, Tucky’s last a game his seventh premiership.
2008 v Geelong: Crawf’s last game, the magic of Rioli and Dew, Hodge wins the Norm Smith Medal.
2013 v Fremantle: Lake winning a Norm Smith in his first year, Mitchell’s inspiring team game, Smith’s 55m goal.
