HAWTHORN defender Ben Stratton has been nominated for the Robert Rose Most Courageous player award to be presented tonight at the AFLPA MVP awards night.

One player from each team has been nominated for the award, with reliable and consistent defender Stratton earning the nomination from his Hawthorn teammates.

The Hawks defender is one of Hawthorn’s most popular players, with his willingness to back into packs and put his body on the line with no consideration for his own safety leaving fans in awe of his commitment to the team.

He has said in a number of interviews that he would do whatever it takes to help the team win, and he has no second thoughts about putting his body and his safety on the line for his teammates.

Stratton in ranked second at the Club, behind only Josh Gibson for one percenters and in the top 10 at the Club for tackles.

The Most Courageous award is aimed to recognise the game’s unsung heroes, with each player in the AFL voting for whom they deem to be the AFL’s most courageous player in 2013.

In 2012, Geelong’s Joel Selwood and West Coast’s Beau Waters were join winners of the Robert Rose trophy.

Other Hawks players up for awards tonight are: Josh Gibson, Sam Mitchell and Jarryd Roughead (AFLPA MVP), Jed Anderson (Best First Year player) and Luke Hodge (Best Captain).
