HAWTHORN utility David Hale has been cleared and is free to play in Round 1 after an incident involving he and Leigh Adams from Saturday's match was assessed by the Match Review Panel.

The incident occured in the opening term of Hawthorn's 81-point win over North Melbourne in Craigieburn, where Hale and Adams collided while vying for a ball in disupte.

The Match Review Panel said Hale had no alternate way of contesting the ball and therefore no charge was laid.

Adams did not leave the field as a result of the incident despite North Melbourne trainers entering the field of play.

Hale was one of Hawthorn's best in the win, booting four goals and proving a dangerous player in Hawthorn's forward half.

He is free to play in Hawthorn's Round 1 blockbuster against Geelong on Easter Monday.
