HAWTHORN stars Josh Gibson and Sam Mitchell descended on Skoda Stadium in Sydney’s west to take part in the Cadbury Super Team Family Day on Australia Day.

Gibson and Mitchell joined 20 of the AFL’s top players at the event, before being split into two “Super Teams” captained by Sydney’s Adam Goodes and Collingwood’s Dale Thomas.

The Super Teams played an exhibition match and ran a clinic for over 3000 fans before playing AFL 9’s against a team put together by Cadbury competition winner Colleen Klingberg.

Mitchell said he enjoyed getting out into the community and getting amongst some of football’s younger generation.

“It was good fun, they’ve got a pretty impressive group of players up here so I guess when you get 20 players of the calibre of what’s here then you’re going to get a pretty good turnout,” Mitchell said at the event on Saturday.

“It’s nice they can get a few people out here and the kids are having a great time.”

Ever the family man, the Hawks star did have one regret - not bringing his three children on the trip to enjoy the activities on offer for youngsters.

“I should have brought my kids (up here) with all these jumping castles,” he joked.

Gibson and Mitchell were selected on opposing sides for the exhibition match, with Gibson selected in Dale Thomas' side joining fellow AFL players David Zaharakis, Patrick Dangerfield, Tom Scully, Callan Ward, Jonathan Brown, Lenny Hayes, Luke McPharlin and Trent Cotchin.

Mitchell played for Goodes’ side with Dean Cox, Andrew Swallow, Kieren Jack, Jobe Watson, Karmichael Hunt, Daniel Giansiracusa, Harry Taylor and Jack Riewoldt.
