Below is a statement from AFL Victoria regarding Alastair Clarkson:

AFL Victoria has received a response from the Hawthorn Football Club relating to an alleged verbal incident that was included in the post game Umpires Report involving Hawthorn senior coach Alastair Clarkson at quarter time of the Box Hill Hawks versus Port Melbourne Peter Jackson VFL game last Saturday.

AFL Victoria is satisfied with the response received from Hawthorn FC and the proactive approach taken by Alastair Clarkson in contacting the two Port Melbourne players involved prior to the request for a response from the Club.

Alastair acknowledged his actions were inappropriate, has expressed his regret at the situation and apologised to the VFL for the incident.

Approaching umpires or players during any interval in a football game by spectators, players or officials is not acceptable within the VFL competition, or at any level of the game.

There will be no further action taken by AFL Victoria regarding this matter.
