SYDNEY coach John Longmire concedes key players Daniel Hannebery and Sam Reid are unlikely to face Hawthorn on Friday night at ANZ Stadium.
Hannebery hurt his knee in his team’s loss to Geelong on Saturday and while he played out the game, is expected to miss Friday night’s finals-shaping clash.
The Swans coach confirmed on Monday that his star midfielder, who was unlucky not to win last year’s North Smith Medal is likely to miss the Round 23 clash.
"Daniel Hannebery probably won't play," Longmire said on Monday.
"He's got a bit of a knock to his knee, so he probably won't play this week.”
The news is the same for premiership forward Sam Reid who hasn’t played since re-injuring his quad in Round 15.
He has played just 10 matches this season.
“Sam Reid probably won't (play),” Longmire conceded.
The news is worse though for dual Brownlow Medallist, Adam Goodes.
Goodes appears unlikely to return this season with a knee injury suffered in Round 13. He managed just 12 disposals in that game against the Power in Adelaide and was subsequently subbed out with the injury.
Rhyce Shaw will also be among the Sydney outs for Friday night’s match after rupturing his ACL against the Cats.
Lewis Jetta and Lewis Roberts-Thompson, however, could return after long stints on the sidelines.
Jetta hasn’t played since Round 10 and Roberts-Thompson, Round 4.
Longmire said both would come under consideration later in the week along with Jude Bolton who is expected to return after missing the loss to Geelong with illness.
"We'll look at obviously getting Jude back. Lewis Jetta and Lewis Roberts-Thomson we'll discuss as the week progresses,” he said.
