HAWTHORN star Jarryd Roughead received a perfect 10 votes from the coaches for his five-goal haul against Port Adelaide on Saturday.

Roughead won the Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation medal for best on ground as voted by the ABC broadcast team, and that decision was vindicated by the voting of Alastair Clarkson and Ken Hinkley in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year.

After losing star forward Lance Franklin to knee soreness before the match, Roughead spent most of his time inside forward 50, but at times found himself in the midfield playing as a rover as in previous weeks.

He gathered 12 touches, took seven marks and kicked 5.2. He was much too big and strong for his opponent, Alipate Carlile.

Another maximum 10 vote game from Roughead sees him move into the top 10 in the overall leader board for the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award.

Hawks skipper Luke Hodge and midfielder Isaac Smith was deemed equal second-best on ground receiving six votes each.

Hodge had a dominant opening term in which he gathered 10 touches and was clearly best on ground to that point.

He finished the match with an equal team high 26 touches (along with Smith), six clearances, six inside 50s, four tackles, four rebound 50s and kicked a goal.

Smith was arguably unlucky not to win the Zaidee’s medal as best on ground after his 26 touches, nine tackles, three clearances and three goals.

His run and carry through the middle and ability to set up teammates up forward allowed the Hawks to run away with a 45-point victory in the end.

Jack Gunston also received four votes for his five-goal effort, while Jordan Lewis polled three votes for another impressive performance in the midfield.

He finished the game with 23 disposals and seven tackles.

Port Adelaide captain Travis Boak was the only Power player to receive votes, polling one for his 34 touches in a losing side.
