WHEN Hawthorn meets Carlton at Etihad Stadium on Friday night, the Blues will be playing for more than four points.

Former Captain Chris Judd plays his 250th AFL match in Round 12, and his side will be doing all they can to ensure it is a memorable one for the star midfielder.

History says teams play with added vigour, with more intensity and desire to honour a teammate reaching a career milestone, and there’s none bigger at Carlton than Chris Judd.

Judd is the player that provides the Blues with the spark they need to wrestle back momentum from its opposition with his ability to cut through traffic using a burst of speed unlike any in the modern game.

He is a player capable of turning a game off his own boot.

He enjoys playing against the Hawks too, averaging 24 disposals in 13 matches and kicked 11 goals in those games.

Coach Mick Malthouse says it’s a credit to Judd to reach the milestone and play at a consistent level of excellence despite being tagged in almost every game he’s played.

“Chris Judd is a professional, he trains hard, does everything right to get the most out of his body and he’s a wonderful footballer,” he said.

“He’s very rarely gone through games without a tag and I think players who can go through 250 games with a tag each week and still be proactive in their own form portrays great belief.

“He understands the game, caters for taggers and just sets himself to be able to beat his man.”
