Following the announcement of Coles’ expanded AFL partnership to include a range of new Indigenous programs, Hawthorn star Shaun Burgoyne celebrated his role as a Coles AFL Indigenous ambassador by visiting the local community at Coles Flemington on Thursday.

As a Coles AFL Indigenous ambassador, Burgoyne is supporting a range of new sporting programs offering mentoring and development of footballing and life skills, strengthening connections with Indigenous communities.

As part of the new Coles AFL Indigenous Programs, the National Female Kickstart Championships commence in 2013.

This new initiative creates opportunities for Indigenous females to play competitive football, whilst also gaining educational outcomes.

“I’m proud to represent a program that places such high importance on supporting players from junior football at under 15s level through to a National Indigenous Coaching Academy," Burgoyne said.

"These programs not only benefit the young people wanting to be part of the AFL, but the wider community as well."
