CYRIL RIOLI has joined players from each AFL club in a video aimed to cut down the number of abusive comments aimed at AFL players and spectators alike at the football.
The video will be aired before each match begins, beginning with the Brisbane versus Collingwood game at the Gabba on Friday night.
Although a player from each of the 18 clubs has recorded a message, only the messages recorded from the competition teams will be aired on the scoreboard.
Former Hawthorn General Manager – Football Operations and now AFL football operations manager, Mark Evans says it is important that fans are not subjected to poor behaviour from their peers when at the football.
"It is extremely important to our players, our clubs and the AFL that all fans attending our matches are entitled to enjoy games, without being subject to poor behaviour by other supporters around them in the venue," the AFL's football operations manager Mark Evans said.
"Barracking hard for your team and good natured banter with the opposition fans has been part of our game for more than a century.
"But there is no place for vitriol and any form of serious abuse, be that racist attacks or other deeply personal slights on our players and or rival fans."
The message from Cyril Rioli and a Melbourne player will feature on the MCG scoreboard before Sunday’s match at the MCG.
