Scans today confirmed the opinion of Club medical staff that Hawks defender Ryan Schoenmakers has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and strained the medial ligament in his right knee, and will require a reconstruction.

Hawthorn General Manager – Football Operations James Fantasia said Schoenmakers is understandably devastated with the news, but remains positive.  

“While Ryan is naturally disappointed by the injury, we’re certain he will approach his rehabilitation with the same professionalism, positivity and dedication he has displayed as a young player,” Fantasia said.

Schoenmakers will consult with a specialist in coming days.
