Hawthorn is set to be without Luke Breust for the next month as the forward recovers from jaw surgery.

Breust picked up the injury in the Hawks' win over North Melbourne on Sunday night.

Physical Performance Manager Luke Boyd said the 29-year-old was able to play through the injury before the discomfort truly set in.

"Luke got a knock to the jaw on the weekend whilst laying a tackle," Boyd said.

"At the time he was a little bit sore but he managed to play out the game.

"He woke up on Monday morning though and he was quite sore through there so we got the area scanned.

"What that's shown is a small fracture through his jaw so he will have surgery on that in the next 24 hours and he will miss a few weeks of football."

Tom Scully says he and his teammates would be open to the possibility of hubs

Fellow forward Jonathon Patton was a late omission from the Hawks side after sustaining an injury in the training session the day prior to the game.

"Unfortunately Jon didn't quite get there for the game last week, his function wasn't quite good enough for us to play him.

"He managed to train fully today though and he should be available to play this weekend."
