WHILE Hawthorn has won its past five matches by an average of 89 points, Assistant Coach Leon Cameron says the Club isn’t getting ahead of itself.

The Hawks take on the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, ahead of a big month of football in which the Hawks face Collingwood, Essendon and Geelong in successive weeks.

Cameron says that while the Hawks are aware of their difficult draw over the next three to four weeks, the Club is focused on this weekend’s opponent.

“We’re happy with our form at the moment, but hopefully our players are really looking forward to Sunday against the Dogs,” he said.

“That’s as far as we’re looking.”

Cameron admitted, however, that the Club is building momentum as the weeks continue to pass.

That momentum is being built by the continued improvement of on-field performances, as well as building on and executing the game plan and structures put in place by the coaches.

“I think it’s just building momentum week by week,” he said.

“That comes from the things you’re trying to bring into your game.

“Whether it’s defensive actions, whether it’s ball movement, whether it’s contested footy, if you can look back at each week and say we’re improving bit by bit in each of these areas, that’s the sort of building the coaches are really happy with.

“Another step is on Sunday against the Dogs, and we’re only looking that far ahead.”

Adding to that improvement has been the form of youngsters such as Ryan Schoenmakers and Bradley Hill.

Schoenmakers plays his 50th game on Sunday, and Cameron lauded the defender’s ability to improve and learn on a week-to-week basis.

“His form over the last seven-eight weeks has been outstanding,” he said.

“The more games they get, the better they become.

“Young Hill is going to get better with each game and we’re rapt with the way he’s going.”
