Hawthorn Football Club officially announced its playing list to members at Wednesday night’s Annual General Meeting at the Hawthorn Town Hall.

The Club also allocated guernsey numbers to Hawthorn’s new recruits and handed out new jumper numbers to some of its young, emerging players.

Josh Gibson will wear guernsey number six and Shaun Burgoyne will take guernsey number nine, which has been vacant for the past twelve months after Shane Crawford retired at the end of season 2008.

Sam Grimley, the Club’s first pick in the National Draft, will wear number 35 while fellow draftees Jordan Williams and Taylor Duryea will wear the numbers 40 and 41 respectively. New recruit Rhan Hooper has been given recently retired Tim Boyle’s number 20 and Ben Stratton will take guernsey number 39, vacated by Robert Campbell who hung up his boots at the end of the 2009 season.

New numbers have also been allocated to some of the Club’s second, third and fourth year players.

Promising youngster Jarryd Morton takes over the famous number 19 jumper worn by Club great Jason Dunstall and Shane Savage has been handed Richie Vandenberg’s jumper 21.

After making his debut in number 42 Matthew Suckling moves into number 31, which became available when Stuart Dew retired towards the end of the 2009 season, and second year player Riley Milne will now wear number 32.

New rookie recruits Wayde Skipper, Jarrod Kayler-Thomson and Michael Johnston will take numbers 42, 45 and 46 respectively.

Hawthorn President Jeff Kennett also officially announced a net operating profit for the year ended 31 October 2009 of $2,724,245.

In 2009 the Club achieved another objective of its five2fifty business plan, with the Hawks becoming the first Victorian based club to exceed 50,000 members - three years ahead of the predicted schedule outlined in the strategy.

Mr Kennett reported on the Club’s final membership tally, which grew 27% to 52,929 (2008 - 41,686), an all-time AFL record. He commented on the growth of Tasmanian support, with membership levels growing 75% from 4,180 in 2008 to 7,335 in 2009 in the state.

The Club also presented Life Membership Awards to captain Sam Mitchell, vice-captain Luke Hodge, former Cheer Squad President Bryan De Haas and Box Hill Football Club President John Ure.

Club Life Service Awards were presented to Cathy James and Ruth and David Langdon for their long-time support of the Club and Darren Smethurst and Bruce Bell received Football Service Awards.
