It is with great sadness that the Club was notified of the passing of its longest serving member, Sidney Boxall earlier this week.

Sid as he was affectionately known passed away earlier this week at the age of 95.

From the age of 8, Sid was signed up as a Hawks member by his father, that year being 1925, the Club’s first season in the VFL.

2012 was Sid’s 87th year of consecutive membership with the Club.

The team will wear black armbands for tonight’s clash with the Bombers in memory of Sidney.

Sid’s legacy at the Club lives on through his son Greg, who is a member of the Club’s recruiting department.  Those who knew Sid would know of his love for Hawthorn through thick and thin.

From the low times during the 1950 season when the Club failed to win a single game, to the 10 premierships that he remembered with great fondness, Sid’s passion never wavered.

Sid’s favourite players included ‘Lethal’ Leigh Matthews, Dermott Brereton and Jim Bohan while of the present day players Hawks Captain Luke Hodge was a clear favourite of Sid’s.

In the photo, Sid is standing alongside his son Greg and Club great Gary Buckenara, while wearing Buckenara’s 1989 Premiership medallion.
