Hawthorn has acquired Northern Territory zone player Jed Anderson in a swap for Hawks key defender Stephen Gilham on the last day of the AFL Trade Period.

The deal also includes an exchange of draft picks that sees Hawthorn receive selections No.29 and No.68, trading picks 28 and 65 to the Giants.

In thanking Gilham for his contribution to the Club, Senior Coach Alastair Clarkson said GWS presents new opportunities for the experienced defender.

“Steve is a quality person and has been an excellent servant of Hawthorn Football Club,” Clarkson said.

“He has played a significant role in mentoring young Hawthorn and Box Hill players throughout his time at the Club and we expect he could apply those skills to a coaching or development role at the end of his playing career,” he said.

At 18 years, Anderson is a 181cm midfielder and half-back who has spent the past two seasons with NT Thunder in the NEAFL.

He completed Year 12 in Darwin last year and was selected in the 2011 All Australian under-18 team as a bottom age player.

Prior to that, the youngster played in the GWS Giants’ TAC Cup team in 2010 and attended St Ignatius' College, Riverview, in Sydney.
