At the beginning of the season, Hawthorn forward Brendan Whitecross emerged as one of the mid-priced players to soar to Dream Team popularity through consistent high scores.

We encouraged coaches to purchase the 24-year-old back in April and have been tracking his progress since.

Whitecross has missed just one game this season, the Round 12 win over the Lions. He has proved that not only can he find the football and be a valuable contributor both for the Hawks and for Dream Team coaches, but we have also discovered that he will line-up for our team more often than not - he is durable.

In his 14 matches this season, Whitecross has hit the ton on five occasions, in Rounds 2, 3, 9, 15 and 16. He has also managed scores of 80 or above on six occasions, and disappointed coached with a score below 70 just twice.

When he does hit 100 points, he doesn’t stop there. On all five occasions, Whitecross has comfortably smashed through the 100-point barrier with scores of 110, 117, 118 and 122.

His average in his last three games sits at an impressive 97.7, while has average over his past five games is equally as impressive - 95.8. That takes his overall average across all 14 matches to 91.71. Not bad for a player whose opening price was $377,800.

Whitecross also ranks in the top five at the Hawks for points scored this season, an impressive feat when considering some of the valuable Dream Team players the Hawks have in their squad.

If you haven’t already pounced on Whitecross, do so before tonight’s lock out. He has spent more time in the midfield this year, and believes that he now belongs at AFL level.

Round 17 spotlight

Jack Gunston ($265,000) - In the absence of Lance Franklin, the Hawks recruit stepped up as the Hawks’ number one target for the majority of last weekend’s win over the Bulldogs. With Jarryd Roughead spending time in the ruck, Gunston was the Hawks’ focal point, booting 4.1 to score 85 Dream Team points.

Isaac Smith ($313,000) - Smith has gone about his business quietly this season, after coaches jumped on the speedster last season. He’s averaging a modest 75.1 points this season, but has been consistent. At $313,000, you could do worse than bring the Hawks’ wingman into your team. Scored 81 against the Bulldogs last week.

Clinton Young ($348,800)
- Many thought he was on the outer at the Hawks, but Clinton Young has shown how valuable he is to the Hawks when injury-free. His left boot is still as dynamic as ever, and he has the ability to score big for Dream Team coaches. Averaging 76.1 points this season with a high score of 132 against Fremantle in Round 8.
