HAWTHORN defender Brent Guerra has been hit with a three-match ban for his hit on Carlton forward Eddie Betts.

Guerra overran the ball and took the Blues' small forward high in the opening term of Friday night's clash at the MCG.

The incident was classified by the Match Review Panel on Monday as a Level Three bumping or making forceful contact from front-on offence.

The incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points), equaling a total of six activation points, drawing 400 demerit points and a four-match sanction.

Given that the defender has no existing good or bad record, an early plea will reduce the sanction by 25 per cent to 300 points and a three-match ban.

The Club and Brent Guerra will make a decision on whether to contest or accept the charge on Tuesday morning.
