Wright has done a long apprenticeship for the role with experience in recruitment at both Brisbane (2004-2007) and Hawthorn Football Clubs (2007-). He also recently completed an MBA in Sports Management at Deakin University.
General Manager - Football Operations Mark Evans said Wright’s appointment had been well deserved.
“Having joined the Club in 2007 as East Coast Recruiting Manager, Graham was promoted to National Recruiting Manager in 2010, and this appointment is further recognition of his professionalism and excellence in talent identification,” he said.
“He is highly regarded by his industry peers, and in his time at Hawthorn he has proved to have a strong understanding on where the game is heading and has consistently impressed with pragmatic philosophies on list management, recruiting and talent identification.”
Wright was recruited to Collingwood Football Club in 1987 and played 201 senior games with the Pies, including the 1990 Grand Final. His playing accolades include All Australian (1990) and Runner-Up Brownlow Medal (1990).
