Marist Regional College backed up their consistent season to win the North Western division grand final of the Tassie Hawks Netball Shield with a decisive 40 – 28 defeat of Devonport High School.
The opening quarter started at a furious pace, but it was Marist who took the early ascendancy with a 13 – 9 lead at the first break.
Marist College made their move in a dominant second quarter and from there never relinquished their hold on the contest. Quick and accurate in attack and strong defensive pressure, the home side produced a complete team effort. Devonport were unable to convert their opportunities and were held to just five goals as Marist shot to a 21 – 15 lead at the main break.
Marist maintained their dominance in the second half, as their defensive pressure, quick ball movement and desire proved decisive in repelling everything Devonport could throw at them.
Devonport never gave up and they proved to be a worthy grand final participant – their school should be extremely proud of their efforts.
Marist now progresses to the Tassie Hawks Netball Shield grand final day at Launceston’s Silverdome on Tuesday 1 September.
