Shane Crawford is just one of the AFL stars nominated for this years Madden Medal to be announced at a gala lunch at Peninsula in the Docklands on December 5.

The list of nominees was all but finalised for 2008 when Shane Crawford announced his retirement and turned the Madden Medal on its head. The final list of nominees for the medal includes Robert Harvey, Shane Crawford, Mal Michael, Nigel Lappin, Scott West and Peter Bell.

The Madden Medal recognises players in four different categories:

The GNC Live Well Football achievement award
The open Universities Australia Personal Development award
The Steel Blue Community Spirit Award

The player who is judged to best display all these characteristics is the recipient of the AMP Madden Medal.

Fittingly Crawford is nominated for all four categories. The only two other players to achieve this feat were Robert Harvey and Peter Bell.
