HAWTHORN recruit Jack Gunston has starred in the club's intra-club practice match in Launceston on Friday.

The 20-year-old, who crossed from Adelaide during trade week, booted four goals from full forward as his team Gold team comfortably defeated Brown in the hit-out.

Hawks development coach David Flood said Gunston had impressed in his first pre-season in the brown and gold.

"Jack has fitted into the club really well, and he presented well today," Flood told hawthornfc.com.au after the match.

"The thing with a new recruit is that they always want to get off to a good start and make a good impression at the club, and Jack is certainly working hard at doing that.

"Hopefully he can be a real asset to our footy club."

Dual Coleman medallist Lance Franklin was another standout, putting his renowned speed to use through the midfield.

"In today's footy you've got to be able to play two or three different positions, and 'Buddy' is no different to some of our other players," Flood said.

"We're trying to keep developing their game so that they become better footballers."

Flood also nominated Isaac Smith and Shane Savage among the best, with youngsters Brad Hill, Jordan Kelly and Angus Litherland showing promising signs.

Importantly, there were no injuries, leaving Hawthorn with a largely healthy list ahead of its opening NAB Cup clash with North Melbourne and Richmond at Etihad Stadium next Friday night.
