Hawthorn Football Club has secured Swan Matt Spangher, and has swapped its pick No.66 for No.72 in an exchange with Sydney Swans.

Spangher, 25, has played 32 AFL games with two clubs: West Coast Eagles and Sydney Swans.

Drafted to West Coast Eagles from Eastern Ranges in 2005 as a tall defender, Spangher managed 26 games between 2008-10 before being picked up by Sydney Swans in the 2010 Draft.

Moving up forward, Spangher forced his way into the side at the back end of 2011 and played the last five games of the season, including two finals, kicking seven goals.

Senior Coach Alastair Clarkson welcomed the acquisition.

“For a long time we’ve admired Matt as a quality person, and we’re confident he will fit in well with the culture of our Club,” Clarkson said.

“We’re delighted that in returning home to Melbourne, Matt wants to be part of Hawthorn Football Club,” he said.
