Will Day is set to miss the next three-to-four months after suffering a stress fracture in his foot.
After returning to training during the club’s bye over the weekend, Day reported some soreness in his foot following a session.
Subsequent scans revealed he had suffered the stress fracture in the navicular bone of his foot, with the 23-year-old to undergo surgery in the coming days.
Hawthorn Head Doctor Liam West said the club would move swiftly.
“In this instance, surgery is required to fix the fracture,” West said.
“Additionally, surgery will also reduce the risk of future issues for Will during his career.”
Executive General Manager of Football Rob McCartney said the playing group was told of the injury this morning.
“Whilst this is a bitter blow for Will, the playing group has already rallied around him to support him during this initial phase,” McCartney said.
“Will is one of the most determined and resilient young individuals I know, and these attributes will come to the fore as he starts his rehab journey.
“With the knowledge and expertise in our medical team, I am confident Will can return to the park before the end of the season.”
