HAWTHORN captain Luke Hodge will increase his game time in Sunday's clash with Port Adelaide, and has no doubt he can have an impact in September.

The 28-year-old will play his 200th career game against the Power, a milestone that has been delayed by 15 weeks this year, first by a calf strain and then a knee injury.

Having been subbed off at three-quarter time as he was eased through his first two games back against Essendon and Geelong, Hodge said he was ready to bypass the red vest this week.

"Hopefully this week [I'll play a full game]," the Norm Smith medallist and three-time All Australian told hawthornfc.com.au.

"I've built the minutes up.

"I've played about 70-odd in the last two games, so I think I'll be pushing to 90 or 100 this week."

Hodge said the four remaining home and away games would give him enough time to reach top condition before the finals.

Although not expecting to make a full-time move back onball, he said he would re-join the Hawks' midfield rotation.

"I think the two games I've already had, plus the four to go, will put me in good stead," Hodge said.

"With our group, you don't have to play 100 per cent in the middle; you can rotate forward or back as well.

"So I reckon at some stage I'll be able to push back in [to the midfield].

"Whether it's just to pinch hit … I won't be expected to play 80 minutes in the midfield, but whether it's half a game there and half a game up forward, just as long as I'm back out there it doesn't really worry me."

And in news that will bring a smile to Hawks fans' faces, Hodge forecast game 200 would be followed by many more.

He has no intention of retiring any time soon.

"My body feels good," he said.

"I enjoy the game now as much as I ever have, and when I had the 12 weeks out with the knee, it just showed up to me how much I love the game.

"I'll keep playing until that part of it goes, unless the club tells me to get out."
