HAWTHORN Football Club has made the following changes to its playing list in preparation for the AFL draft period.
Mitch Thorp, Tim Walsh and Haydn Kiel have been delisted while third-year rookie Matthew Suckling has been elevated to the senior list.
While Thorp had one year to run on his contract, he has been plagued by injury and has only been able to manage two senior games in his three seasons at the Club.
“Unfortunately, Mitch has been limited by injury in the first three years and as a consequence, has had little opportunity to play senior footy at Hawthorn,” General Manager Player Personnel and Strategy said Chris Pelchen said.
“Mitch requested to be considered for a trade, but unfortunately, this was not able to be achieved during trade week.
“After further consultation with Mitch and his management, we felt it was best for Mitch’s interests to seek a fresh start at another club,” Pelchen said.
Thorp, Walsh and Kiel have indicated their desire to continue their AFL careers with other clubs.
“Tim and Haydn have both made valuable contributions to the Box Hill Hawks Football Club in 2009 and we wish Mitch, Tim and Haydn every success for the future,” Pelchen said.
Stuart Dew, Tim Boyle and Robert Campbell have announced their retirements since the end of the 2009 season.
The Hawthorn Football Club thanks the players for their commitment to the Hawks during their careers and wishes them every success for the future.
The final list submitted to the AFL by Hawthorn will include Trent Croad, who will be listed as a veteran. Croad has been offered a one-year extension to his playing contract.
Hawthorn has five selections in the November AFL National Draft (currently picks 39, 46, 57, 58, 69).
