Hawthorn has secured experienced key defender Brian Lake from Western Bulldogs in exchange for Selection No. 41 in the 2013 National Draft.

Part of the deal includes a trade of Hawthorn’s first round draft pick (No.21) and Western Bulldogs’ Selection No.27.

The dual All-Australian, who is just three matches short of his 200-game milestone, played 20 games last season.

Hawthorn’s General Manager - Football Operations Mark Evans said the talented backman is a great pick-up for the Club.

“Brian is a fantastic addition to our list, and will complement our defensive unit extremely well,” Evans said.

“His experience will be highly valuable to our group of relatively young defenders and he will add greatly to our side’s depth.”

Recruited from Woodville-West Torrens (SA) by Western Bulldogs in the 2001 National AFL Draft, Lake’s career highlights include All-Australian selection in 2009 and 2010, pre-season premiership in 2010, best and fairest in 2007, and most promising player in 2003.
